An independent guitar shop in the Holme Valley

Tone District is a small, independent guitar shop in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, with a showroom and a workshop under the same roof.

We sell new and pre-owned electric, acoustic and bass guitars, amplifiers, effects and the gear that goes with them. We set up everything we sell, we repair instruments for anyone who brings one in, and we buy and part-exchange used gear.

Players, not salespeople

Nobody here works on commission. Nobody will steer you towards the expensive one because it is the expensive one.

If the guitar you have your eye on is not right for what you have described, we will tell you, even when the alternative costs less. If the amp you already own will do the job, we will say that too. It is a smaller sale and a better shop.

Every instrument goes through the workshop

A guitar leaves a factory, sits in a warehouse, crosses a continent in a box, and arrives somewhere with completely different humidity. It is almost never playing the way it should when it gets here.

So it does not go on the wall until it has been through the bench. Neck relief, action, nut slots, intonation, fret check, pickup heights, fresh strings, and a proper play-test. If it needs more than an adjustment, it gets it before it is offered for sale, or it does not get offered.

That applies to the £200 first guitar as much as to the expensive ones. Beginners have the hardest time with a badly set-up instrument, because they assume the problem is them.

The workshop is open to everyone

You do not have to have bought from us. Bring in whatever you have — setups, fretwork, nut and saddle work, electronics, rewiring, hardware, structural repairs and headstock breaks.

We will look at it with you at the bench, tell you what it needs and what it does not, and quote before anything happens. If a job is not worth doing on an instrument, we will tell you that instead of taking the money.

Come and play something

The showroom is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 17:00, and out of hours by phone appointment. Everything is plugged in and available to try. There is no minimum spend on a Tuesday afternoon spent finding out what a good acoustic actually sounds like.

Buying an instrument is a physical decision. Photographs and specifications only get you so far — two guitars off the same production line feel different in the hands, and the only way to know which one is yours is to hold both.

If you cannot get here

We ship free to the UK and the United States, tracked and insured, packed properly. Every instrument is set up before it goes, and you can tell us in the order notes how you like it. Ring or email first and we can talk you through a specific instrument, send you photographs of the actual one, and answer the questions the listing does not.
